ATRs, the unrepresented -- no elected representatives in the UFT

"The right of voting for representatives is the primary right by which other rights are protected.
"To take away this right is to reduce a man to slavery, for slavery consists in being subject to the will of another."
Thomas Paine, First Principles of Government

ATRs' lawsuit on observation violations

Some ATRs are starting a class action suit on the issue of observations.

The lawsuit focuses on making a complaint contending that the DOE has violated the DOE-UFT contract regarding ATRs, specifically, on DOE violations of “Teaching for the 21st Century.” You can access the document here: http://www.uft.org/files/attachments/teaching-for-the-21st-century.pdf

The UFT has this page on observation rights as well: http://www.uft.org/doe-documents/observation-evaluation

There is a goal of January 28 for having names and grievances for starting a lawsuit. Those interested in joining should do so by contacting the email address below. Please email that address or the address at the top of this page for the problematic points that you should be noting.

Please send your name as a contact if you might be interested in joining this potential suit, to doeatreducators@gmail.com.

  2. For the past year I have been combing the internet everyday - in search of this announcement - and this opportunity! Such shameful abuse of educators should have no place in the United States.

ATRs who survived 3020 a charges are particularly vulnerable - the intent is to get us to lose our jobs the second time around.

We have no choice but to seek the protection of the court. It is so long overdue.

I am worried about those teachers brought up on bogus chargers who lost their job because they relied on the Union which very rarely fights these cases instead prefering to mislead and twist the arms of teachers into accepting a deal which would turn out to be termination.
Can we do something for this group also? Is it too late?

  3. I wish that I can find other teachers to file a lawsuit against the doe. I am looking for teachers or families who lost loved ones to cancer. To date I know of 17 including myself and a student who got cancer from being in the school I taught at.
